‘The great challenge for the garden designer is not to make the garden look natural, but to make the garden so that the people in it will feel natural’.
Lawrence Halprin – Landscape Architect.
From the beginning of my career I have been passionate about the design of gardens. The value of a green space in close proximity of one’s home is invaluable to health and well-being: whilst the benefits of looking after a garden are inestimable. I am inspired and influenced by many gardens around the world and bring that inspiration to my clients’ projects.
My approach to garden design is to work with clients very closely to discover likes and dislikes; their ambitions for the space and their home; and most importantly who will use it. The garden is another room in the house after all. Working with the natural elements (sun, soil, water, slope) I then produce conceptual sketches, colour plans, perspectives alongside mood images of materials and plants, to allow discussion of all the options. I then produce a finished plan which will then enable the client to seek planning permission (if necessary) and quotes from landscape contractors.
